Hackney Dawn Watching

An event that brings people together to watch the changes in the city as it goes from darkness through to sunrise.

Hackney Dawn Watching was an event developed by Natasha Vicars as part of a Longhouse action research bursary that created a new setting for strangers, living streets away from each other in Hackney, to come together as a temporary community and reflect on their connection with that place.

Through the subtle act of creating an open gathering between the hours of 3am and 6am on the roof of a local landmark, Vicars instigated an unfamiliar collective experience; a social space outside of normal routines and a way of seeing a familiar place in a new light.
